The Basics for Custom Silk Production
Creating a custom square or oblong for scarf, wall hanging, home altar cloth, bookmark, fashion accessory or decorative pillow is easy. First you choose the art, patterns or significant symbols that most represent your custom silk.
Several factors go into determining the price of a custom accessory. Here are the basics:
The minimum quantity for a custom silk is 100-300 pieces.
The price depends on several factors:
- Silk, Hemp or Bamboo.
- The quality of the fabric, particularly if you choose silk. (Silk comes in many weights and weaves - i.e.: chiffon, twill, crepe de chine, georgette and satin).
- Standard widths are: 90 cm (35.4”), 114 cm (44.8”) & 140 cm (55.1”). This is raw size, finished size after hems are 4-6 cm (1.5”-2.3”) smaller.
- How many colors are in your design?
- What size would you like your finished product(s) to be? A square - 22" x 22”. 33 x 33” or 44" x 44"; an oblong – 20 x 60” 17" x 70", 36" x 68", or 42" x 80" or another size.
The Healing Silks' procedure for custom accessory production is as follows:
- We receive an image you would like made into a custom accessory and discuss design possibilities with you. The dimensions of your art will contribute to determining the dimensions of the item because the proportions have to work out. We will advise if your art can be used to create them.
- Or we custom design an image for you.
- You receive a cost estimate.
- If our estimate meets with your approval, you sign it and send us a $500-$2500 design deposit for each design, for work to proceed. (This is the total design fee for up to three submissions. The actual cost depends on complexity of design.)
- You will receive design roughs (up to three for each product) until you are satisfied with your design via jpeg or on paper. Should you require additional artwork beyond the three submissions additional fees will apply.
- Next, prior to production, you receive a reduced size silk proof of each product for approval. (This step takes between 2-4 weeks).
- After approval, you receive a final price to produce your product(s).
- We require a 70% deposit on the cost of your product(s) to begin production.
- A strike off (actual sample of each product) is submitted to you for approval before we proceed with production. (This step takes 2-4 weeks). No changes can be made to the design at this stage.
- When you approve a strike off(s), production can begin. (This takes 4-6 weeks).
- Upon completion at the factory and before delivery, the balance of the cost is due.
Note: All shipments are F.O.B. Portland, Oregon. Total time from start to finish is usually between 12-18 weeks. This can vary due to many factors. Final delivery date can be determined once your final approved of the proofs is obtained.
